What Is Microscleotherapy?

Microsclerotherapy is a virtually painless, popular treatment solution to remove the visible spider veins for cosmetic purposes. It is a simple procedure where we inject a dilute irritant solution into the unwanted thread veins using a very fine needle.

Treatment Procedure

After a full consultation and discussion around realistic outcomes, we apply numbing cream to the areas being treated.  A very fine needle is used to inject the sclerosing agent combined with local anaesthetic into the unwanted spider veins.  This irritates the vein wall causing it to become inflamed and sticky, they then close up, preventing blood from pooling within. As such they virtually disappear! Most clients require multiple treatments for complete removal but can expect a very good improvement in the appearance of the legs over time.

What Thread|Spider Vein Treatments Do You Offer?

We offer thread and spider vein treatments using microsclerotherapy for the lower limbs only.

How Does it Work?

The injected solution is an irritant, it damages the blood vessel lining that it is injected into, causing it to break down.  The damaged vein tissue is slowly absorbed by the body in its normal repair process, improving the appearance of the unwanted spider veins.

  • Go for a brisk walk for 10 minutes outside the clinic to encourage blood flow and prevent clotting.

  • Drink at least 2L of water a day for the following 48 hours.

  • The treated areas may look worse when you remove the hosiery – this is completely normal at this stage.

  • Avoid extremes of temperature for 14 days i.e. very hot baths, saunas, sun beds & ice-packs.

  • Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks, pigmentation may be enhanced and take longer to fade.

  • Avoid high impact exercise for at least 2 weeks

  • Avoid waxing of the legs for 4 weeks. Waxing can increase the occurrence of thread veins.

  • Elevate your legs as much as possible for the first two weeks.

  • Consider wearing long term compression hosiery to reduce the appearance of thread veins.

The results of this treatment are permanent but do not stop new thread veins from forming. As such you may need maintenance treatments when new veins appear.
